NEW DELHI: China on Wednesday sought to allay concerns in India about its proposal to build a hydro project on the Brahmaputra with its embassy in New Delhi saying any such project would take into account the likely impact on “downstream areas”.
The Chinese embassy said China had always taken a “responsible attitude” towards development of cross-border rivers. An embassy spokesperson said the downstream development of Yarlung Zangbo (Brahmaputra) river was still at the stage of preliminary planning and demonstration. ”There is no need to over-interpret it.”
