Protester exists, apologise: Punjab lawyer tells Kangana Ranaut

MOHALI: A Zirakpur-based lawyer has sought an apology from actor Kangana Ranaut over a tweet in which she allegedly accused an 80-year-old woman of taking Rs 100 to protest against the new farm laws.
In a legal notice sent to Kangana, Hakam Singh, who practises in the Punjab and Haryana high court, sought an apology on Twitter within seven days.
“She posted the tweet without even thinking about its impact. She has made a mockery of a senior citizen,” he said.
The lawyer said Kangana’s comments had dented the image of every woman who took part in any kind of protest. The notice reads, “That by tweeting in such a manner, the same also points out towards the fact that the protest which is being conducted by the farmers, is being conducted by bringing persons on rent. Such a low thinking from you, who herself is lady and celebrity, is not acceptable. That it is submitted that you have tweeted the said message without any proof and evidence and such an act and conduct from you, is not appreciable.”
He added the tweet was also hurtful to the sentiments of families of farmers who have lost their lives in the protest.
Hakam alleged in the legal notice: ‘It is to advise you that before tweeting any information on social media, you must authenticate the real information. It is to inform you that the said lady is not a fake lady. Her name is Mahinder Kaur and she belongs to village Bahadurgarh Jandiyan, Bathinda. She is wife of farmer Labh Singh Nambardar. She in her life, has always remained connected with fields and fieldwork, and she is wife of a farmer.”
