Cyclone Burevi weakens into deep depression

CHENNAI: Cyclone Burevi has weakened into a deep depression and lay centred close to Ramanathapuram district coast, about 20km southwest of Pamban and 210 km east-northeast of Kanyakumari, the IMD said on Thursday evening.
The associated wind speed was about 55-65 gusting to 75 kmph, said S Balachandran, deputy director general of meteorology, IMD, Chennai.
The deep depression is likely to move west-southwestwards and cross Ramanathapuram and Tuticorin coasts on Thursday night early hours of Friday with wind speeds of 50-60 gusting to 70 kmph. It is very likely to weaken further into a depression (wind speed 40-50kmph gusting to 60 kmph) on Friday morning.
Southern districts would receive heavy to moderate rain on Thursday night and Friday morning.
Tuticorin airport would remain closed on Friday due to rain. Madurai airport will be closed from morning till noon on Friday.
