INS Vikramaditya
PANAJI: To mark Navy Day, the Indian Navy has created a virtual tour of India’s lone aircraft carrier, INS Vikramaditya. A virtual walk-around of INS Mysore, a destroyer, is also being offered for those curious to see the insides of India’s frontline warships.
On December 4, the Indian Navy allows citizens the opportunity to visit some of its ships. In addition, school children have free entry at the naval aviation museum at Bogmalo from Friday to Sunday.
But this year, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the outreach has turned largely virtual, said an Indian Navy officer.
Due to Covid restrictions, a 360-degree virtual reality tour of INS Vikramaditya is available on the navy’s website. Viewers will be able to explore the flight deck and other unclassified areas using their personal devices.
The tour of the naval destroyer, INS Mysore will provide viewers a virtual walk around the ship’s prominent places with relevant briefings by the ship’s personnel.
Navy Day is celebrated on December 4 every year to commemorate Operation Trident during the 1971 Indo - Pak war.
The Naval Aviation Museum showcases the rich legacy of Indian naval aviation and has 14 vintage aircraft on display, along with engines, weapons and other equipment to delight aviation enthusiasts. The museum recently won Trip Advisor’s Travellers’ Choice Award 2020.
