Coimbatore: A 59-year-old man was killed after a private bus rammed his motorcycle before crashing into a fuel station at Ukkadam in the city on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as M Rajamanickam, a resident of Muthur. The driver of the bus, N Ramesh, a resident of Pattanam, was arrested by the city police.
The accident took place around 10am when Ramesh steered the bus to the left side to avoid hitting a motorcycle on the right side on Ukkadam-Athupalam road. However, the bus ended up hitting another motorcycle in which Rajamanickam was riding on the left side.
The bus driver lost control of the vehicle, according to police.
“The bus crashed into a fuel station and came to a halt after hitting a pumping machine. Rajamanickam got trapped under the bus and died on the spot,” police said.
Alerted by commuters, the traffic investigation wing of the city police rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for postmortem. Police have booked a case and arrested the driver under sections 304 (a) (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving) and 337 (endangering of others life) of IPC. He was produced before the judicial magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. TNN
