Man stabbed, wife assaulted near Gorewada Zoo

Nagpur: A couple from Lalganj, returning from Dhapewada on a bike, were attacked by an unidentified person in front of Gorewada Zoo on Katol Road on Tuesday night. The Gittikhadan police, which have registered a case of attempt to murder as the unknown assailant stabbed the man, have launched a manhunt. The reason behind the attack is not known yet, said the police, adding that there was no attempt to loot the couple.
Police said complainant Rajshree Dekate (23, a resident of Lalganj, Itwari), her husband Rakesh and four-year-old son Vaishnav were returning from Dhapewada on a motorcycle. In front of Gorewada Zoo gate, Rakesh had to stop his vehicle after his son felt nauseated and wanted to vomit. Rakesh stopped the motorcycle on the roadside and allowed his son to vomit while Rajashree was standing near the two-wheeler.
At around 7.30pm, an unidentified man, his face covered with a scarf, reached there on a motorcycle and before anyone could understand anything, the man hit Rajashree on her head with an iron road. Seeing his wife in trouble, Rakesh rushed towards her, but the miscreant whipped out a knife and stabbed him in the abdomen, said the police. After attacking the couple, the accused fled the spot on his two-wheeler.
Soon passers-by informed the police control room and Gittikhadan police team reached there. The police rushed the injured couple to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital, where the duo are stable, said PSI Pendkar.
Pendkar said the intention of the attack on the couple is still unknown. The couple also claimed that they don’t have any enmity with anyone in the recent past. Rakesh works in a shoe showroom at Manish Nagar. The police are scanning CCTV cameras installed on the busy Katol Road to identify the assailant.
