Surat: Ferrying four chickens with legs tied together and hanging upside down on his motorcycle was the biggest ‘fowl move’ this 24-year-old chicken seller committed which earned him not only cops’ wrath but a place inside lock-up too.
Ramjan Idrisi, a resident of Dungri Faliya, was arrested on charges of cruelty to birds and cops also seized the birds along with his bike worth Rs10,000.
Accused was stopped for rash driving when the police noticed the chickens tied on his motorcycle. They booked him immediately for cruelty to the birds and seized his motorcycle and the four chickens each worth Rs 200.
While the birds for the time have been sent to a local animal farm for orphan animals following a local court order, they will be returned to the accused only if the court allows, police said.
While checking vehicles near Hanuman Temple in Dugri Faliya in Dungra village on Monday, cops noticed Idrisi riding at high speed from Degam village side on his motorcycle. Police stopped him and saw the chickens tied with a rope hanging from the back seat. He was detained from the spot and arrested after preliminary investigation.
Idrisi told the police that he is a retail chicken seller and bought the chicken from a market in Motapondha village. He was going to sell the chickens to his customers when police caught him.
“The accused was caught for rash driving and since the birds were found cruelly tied on the motorcycle he was booked for additional charges,” said a police officer of Dungra police station.
