Ludhiana: Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu’s claims that some hooligans have infiltrated into the farmers’ agitation and are trying to sabotage it, has sparked a political row following strong reactions from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
Terming them as iliterate and rowdies, enemies of Punjab and goons, Bittu had alleged that these elements had abused and heckled politicians, mediapersons and artists who were coming to the spot.
Party district president Ranjit Dhillon said, “Bittu should be ashamed of himself for defaming Punjabi youth by levelling false accusations against them. Moreover, the threats he is giving in his video statements to the youth clearly show who the real goon is. Bittu is totally out of his mind and giving senseless statements which are aimed at instilling an element of fear among Punjabis, especially the Hindu community, by cooking false narratives. This is just a drama by him and his party for polarisation of votes with a view on the next assembly elections in Punjab. Moreover, if Bittu was heckled by the protesters, then they were justified in doing so as they had already made it clear that they would not tolerate presence of any politician in the protest.”
Dhillon added that, “Over the years Bittu has become habitual of indulging into scare tactics and raking up Khalistan issue just for political gains. If he is so concerned about farmers’ woes, then instead of making derogatory remarks against them he as a MP from Punjab should meet the Prime Minister and get these black farming laws cancelled.”
Dhillon also said, “Bittu’s statements has exposed the Congress, chief minister Amarinder Singh and other leaders who are pretending to be fighting for the farmers. His views echo the thinking of the entire leadership towards youth and farmers of Punjab and it is now up to the farmers to decide for themselves who is playing politics with them.”
