57-year-old Punjab farmer dies of cardiac arrest at Delhi's Tikri Border protest site

BATHINDA: A 57-year-old farmer of Laleana village in Punjab's Bathinda died of cardiac arrest at Tikri Border protest site in Delhi late on Wednesday.
Lakhbir Singh had reached the protest site with other farmers from Dabwali on November 26. He had also participated in the protest at Badal village in the month of September.
The 57-year-old turned out to be the seventh casualty during protests on Delhi borders. Earlier, 32-year-old farmer Barjinder Singh had died in road accident near Kurukshetra while returning from Delhi. Another farmer Dhanna Singh had died in a road mishap in Bhiwani while heading towards Delhi.
Mechanic Janak Raj (60) had died near Tikri Border when the car wherein he was sleeping had caught fire. Farmer Gajjan Singh had died of cardiac arrest. On Wednesday, 60-year-old Gurjant Singh of Bacchoana village in Mansa district and Gurbachan Singh of Moga had died during the protests.
BKU Ekta Ugrahan district Bathinda secretary Harjinder Singh Baggi said that Lakhbir Singh was an active member of the farm organisation and was taking part in protests. His family owns 5 acres land and farm organisation has demanded compensation to bereaved the family.
