Warangal Urban: Manda Sagar, a 23-year-old mechanic accused in the murder of nine-year-old boy Kusuma Deekshith Reddy of Mahabubabad, attempted suicide by putting his fingers in a fuse box at the prison on Tuesday.
He was lodged in the Warangal central prison as an undertrial prisoner in the case.
However, the incident came to light on Wednesday. When contacted, prison superintendent J Murali Babu said that Sagar, who was put in the high-security barracks, came out for ‘phone feeding’ on Tuesday at around 3.30 pm.
“While returning to the barracks along with two other prisoners, he suddenly stopped at the starter box of the borewell motor pumpset, pulled out a fuse and put his fingers with an intention to kill himself. But he was thrown by the electrical power and lost consciousness for about 10 minutes,” he said, adding that he was immediately shifted to the MGM Hospital for treatment. He recovered within an hour.
However, he has been placed under observation at the hospital, he added. The prison authorities have also lodged a complaint with the Matwada police station against Sagar for attempting suicide. Sagar allegedly kidnapped and murdered Deekshith in October this year.
