Starz OTT platform Lionsgate Play launched in India

The app is being offered at subscription models of Rs 699 per year and Rs 99 per month

Hyderabad: Global streaming platform Starz launched its direct to consumer OTT platform Lionsgate Play in India on Wednesday. The app is being offered at subscription models of Rs 699 per year and Rs 99 per month.

The app will be available to be downloaded in array of platform including Google Play Store, Apple app store and Amazon firestick among others.

Speaking at the virtual launch of the app, Lionsgate South Asia MD Rohit Jain said, “We started our journey in India in August 2019 and over the last one year are seeing a tremendous consumer response as the Covid-19 has fast forwarded the visual experience for many of us. This encouraged us to officially launch the app in India and also come up with high-budget premium Indian originals. These originals will be available in the country starting 2021. We are looking to unveil new content every week and every fortnight. We are looking to expand our offering to 55 countries soon.”

One of the unique features of the app, according to Jain, is the availability of high-paced Hollywood and English movies dubbed in Indian languages like Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Kannada, and Bhojpuri. The Indian originals in being developed in partnership with the likes of Anil Kapoor, Mukesh Bhatt, Kunal Kohli, and Akarsh Khurana and studios such as Endemol Shine. These originals will also have global appeal and likewise global content will be made available to Indian consumers at the same time.
