THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Recoveries outnumbered new
Covid-19 cases again with 6,151 patients testing negative for the virus on Tuesday. With this, the number of
active cases in the state has come down to 61,092. There was further relief as the
test positivity rate (
TPR) also dipped to 9.14%. When 58,809 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, only 5,375 turned positive.
Of the new cases, 5,261 cases belong to the category of locally transmitted infection while the source of 617 cases remains unknown. As many as 114 people who have travelled to the state from outside and 48 health workers have also tested positive.
Meanwhile, 26 more deaths were confirmed as due to Covid and the related
death toll in the state has risen to 2,271.
Malappuram reported the highest number of cases — 886 — followed by Thrissur
(630), Kottayam (585), Kozhikode (516), Ernakulam (504),
Thiruvananthapuram (404), Kollam (349), Palakkad (323), Pathanamthitta (283), Alappuzha (279), Kannur (222), Idukki (161), Wayanad (150) and Kasaragod (83).
The people infected through contact are Malappuram - 849, Thrissur - 610, Kottayam - 581, Kozhikode - 484, Ernakulam - 333, Thiruvananthapuram - 241, Kollam - 343, Palakkad - 190, Pathanamthitta - 192, Alappuzha - 271, Kannur - 186, Idukki - 103, Wayanad - 137 and Kasaragod - 76.
There are currently 3,10,611 people under isolation in various districts, of which 2,95,494 are under home or institutional quarantine while 15,117 are in hospitals. A total of 1,494 people were admitted to the hospitals on Tuesday. A total of 63,21,285 samples have so far been sent for testing. As many as 5,44,864 people have so far recovered from the disease in the state.
Three places were newly declared as hotspots and six areas were excluded. Presently, there are 501 hotspots in the state.
