BENGALURU: In a relief to suburban train passengers, The South Western Railway on Wednesday decided to resume Memu and Demu services which were stopped on March 21 due to the pandemic.
The trains likely to resume operations are 06547/06548 Yeshwantpur-Hosur-Yeshwantpur Memu, 06553/06554 Yeshwantpur-Tumakuru-Yeshwantpur Demu, 06555/06556 KSR Bengaluru City-Marikuppam-KSR Bengaluru City Memu, 06557/06558 Bangarapet-Mysuru-Bangarapet Memu, 06563/06564 Hindupur-Yeshwantpur-Hindupur Memu and 06579/06580 Yeshwantpur-Hassan-Yeshwantpur Demu.
The SWR is planning to introduce 26 pairs of additional trains, including six pairs of Memu/Demu services.
“They are likely to start shortly as special trains as per the railway board’s instructions,” read a communication from the SWR to all the three divisions in the zone on Wednesday.
TOI had carried an article on November 27 titled ‘SWR awaits green signal to resume suburban services’ .
This is the first time SWR will operate Memu services on the Hosur route. The electrification work between Byappanahalli and Hosur (48km) was completed last month. Those working on Outer Ring Road, Sarjapur, Electronics City and Bommasandra are set to benefit from this. However, SWR has not announced any trains to Devanahalli so the inauguration of Rs 3-crore halt station near Kempegowda International Airport may be delayed.
