UK grants temporary authorization for use of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID vaccine

London, Dec 2 (UNI) The United Kingdom on Wednesday became the first country to grant a temporary authorization to Pfizer-BioNTech for emergency use for their COVID-19 vaccine.

"Pfizer and BioNTech are anticipating further regulatory decisions across the globe in the coming days and weeks and are ready to deliver vaccine doses following potential regulatory authorizations or approvals", the pharmaceutical giant said in a statement.

Pfizer Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Albert Bourla said that today’s emergency use authorization in the UK marks a "historic moment" in the fight against COVID-19.

"This authorization is a goal we have been working toward since we first declared that science will win, and we applaud the MHRA for their ability to conduct a careful assessment and take timely action to help protect the people of the UK," the CEO said.
