Total War: Warhammer 2's New DLC is Bringing a Rework to Wood Elves

Alongside the release of its The Twisted and The Twilight DLC for Total War: Warhammer 2, Creative Assembly is also bringing some sweeping changes to how Wood Elves are played in the large-scale strategy game. Creative Assembly's Ella McConnel and designer on the Warhammer new content team Will Wright talk about these changes in a blog post.

According to Wright, the rationale behind the rework of the Wood Elves mostly comes down to the flavour of playing the faction. While not isolationists, Warhammer's Wood Elves avoid interacting with the world outside their forest. Since this conflicts with a lot of Total War's core gameplay, the Wood Elves needed a bit of revamp in gameplay.

As part of the change, Amber is being introduced to Total War: Warhammer 2, allowing Wood Elves to progress in a Total War: Warhammer 2 campaign without having to expand all over the map, and to help distinguish the Wood Elves from the Tree Spirits. Amber is now a rare resource, used for specific, powerful technologies.

Wood Elves are also getting a new mechanic that revolves around healing the forests. Certain settlements are marked as the core of a "Magical Forest", and the campaign revolves around healing these forests by securing their surrounding regions by conquering or razing them.
