Parents of students studying in board classes of Punjab School Education Board are a harassed lot as they have been asked to deposit ‘hefty’ examination fees, schedule for which is yet to be announced.

The authorities have given a narrow span of period for collecting fees from students and uploading challans on their respective IDs.

Demanding rationalisation of fee structure, both the parents and the school authorities have urged the Education Department and Punjab School Education Board to extend dates for uploading challans and fee payment.

While students appearing in Class X were asked to deposit Rs 100 per practical subject in addition to Rs 800 for main examination, those appearing in Class XII need to pay Rs 1,200 as examination fee and Rs 150 each for practical subjects. Students are also asked to deposit Rs 150 for practical English subject.

Kulwant Singh, a labourer, said he was yet to deposit fee for his two wards for the lockdown period. “My son and daughter would have failed to appear in the examination had the class teachers of my wards not helped me,” said Singh adding he would have to borrow money from his relatives to pay the fee.

Viney Gupta, principal of a private-aided senior secondary school, acknowledged that schools had received instructions to collect fee from students of board classes during last week of November and challans had to be uploaded on Tuesday. “Though collected fee is supposed to be deposited in banks before December 10, we had to upload chalans containing details of students by close of business today,” said Gupta. ‘
