Sikh peer raises kisan protest in House of Lords to question democracy in India

LONDON: British Sikh peer Lord Singh of Wimbledon raised the protests by farmers in India in the House of Lords to question whether India is a leading democracy, whilst former England cricketer Monty Panesar urged farmers from across India to join the fight and Punjabi-origin MP Virendra Sharma criticised famers who refused Amit Shah’s request to assemble at the Burari grounds as the protests continue to reverberate in Britain.
“Can the minister tell us why India, currently in the news for trying to make Punjab farmers serfs on their own land, is suggested as one of the 10 leading democracies,” Singh, born in Rawalpindi, asked at a debate on Monday.
