CBSE Board Exam 2021: Officials rule out conducting exams online, to be in written mode only
"No final decision has been taken regarding the dates for conduct of board exams, and consultations with stakeholders are still in process. The exams, as and when they are conducted, will be in written mode and not in an online mode. The exams will be conducted following all Covid protocols," a senior CBSE official said.
NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examination for students of classes X and XII will take place in pen and paper mode and not online. The board has also said for students who are not able to appear for the practicals, alternatives will be explored.
Issuing a statement, the board said, “The exams as and when they are being conducted, will be in the written mode and not in an online mode. The exams will be conducted following all COVID protocols.”
However, the board is yet to take a decision on when the exam will be held. “Consultations with stakeholders are still in process.”
The union education ministry will be holding consultation with the teachers, students and parents on December 10 regarding the exams. The education minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had tweeted and asked the stakeholders to share their concerns.
“Dear all, 2020 has been a year of a great many changes like adjusting to #onlineeducation, adapting to #newnormal. Happy to share that I am going live on Dec 10 to talk about upcoming competitive/board exams with you. Drop your concerns below using #EducationMinisterGoesLive,” Nishank had tweeted.
With Delhi having the most number of students, schools appearing for the board exam, earlier the Directorate of Education (DoE) had written asking that the exams should be held in May. The exams used to begin by February for the students earlier. The batch appearing for the board exam next year has not attended a single physical class.
With schools closed, there has been a concern among principals, teachers and students regarding the practical exam for different subjects. Especially the class XII science students with 30 marks for practical have been worried.
To, which the board has said, “In case students are not able to do practicals in classes before the exams, alternatives to practical exams will have to be explored.”
For this batch of students due to COVID19, the syllabus was reduced by almost 30%. However, for the practicals, there has been no change as per the teachers. Delhi government had even requested for further slashing of the syllabus.
However, CBSE has changed the question pattern a little, increasing the weightage of the multiple-choice questions.
