After school, Padavettu director Liju Krishna had left his native Maloor in Kannur for higher studies. However, the past two years have been all about reconnecting. The Nivin Pauly-movie, bankrolled by Sunny Wayne, will see his neighbours playing interesting roles. Liju tells us that nearly a thousand denizens of Maloor are part of his debut directorial. "We gave them six months of acting training at Maloor. They recently came down to Kochi to finish the dubbing. It was their first experience and like us, even they are happy," he says, adding that the film is currently in post production. "We found people who are apt for our characters and then started giving them training. Once every two weeks , we used to gather around a campfire and have interactive sessions, improvisations and a bit of cinema theory classes," he says. The characters have used their own costumes for the film. "The shoot took some time, as sometimes we needed extra takes. But things went really well," he says. Padavettu is a rustic tale and Nivin plays a local village guy. Thozhilurappu labourer, Sreedevi Mathery from Maloor, who has done an integral role in the movie, says that Padavettu is a people's movie. "It is the most memorable experience in my life. We were all celebrating the entire movie production," she says. Padavetty is by the people and for he people, Liju says. "Everybody has become really close post film production. Nivin chettan became one among them and he was able to freely walk around anywhere in Maloor. People forgot the star in him. I wanted to share the happiness of me making a movie with my people," he sums up.
