Hyderabad: Starting next year, private junior colleges in the State may get affiliation up to three years. However, the private junior college managements must furnish all relevant documents in order to get such affiliation. A proposal is being prepared by the Board of Intermediate Education which may be implemented from the academic year 2021-22. Presently, the private junior colleges were being granted affiliation on a yearly basis.
The Board authorities are also planning to introduce single-window system to grant affiliation to the colleges. The affiliation process involves submission of certificates including building permission, lease documents, sanitation, and structural soundness, fire No Objection Certificate (NoC) from the Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services department etc. to the Board.
“On the lines of the TS-iPASS, this new single-widow system is being planned from the academic year 2021-22. The affiliation involves four departments, including-education, MA& UD, fire and R&B. Instead of approaching all departments for necessary certificates, the managements can make application through new system and affiliation will be granted in 30 days. Presently, we are developing software. If all documents are in place, the affiliation will be granted for three years else it will be for one year,” an official said.
Meanwhile, out of 1,616 junior colleges in the State, 1,053 have been granted affiliation by the Board for the academic year 2020-21. As many as 395 college buildings have mixed occupancy (junior college + school or degree college, junior college + commercial shops or college + residential homes) and were not granted affiliation as they failed to submit a fire NoC certificate which is mandatory in case of mixed occupancy.
This year, 45 colleges, including 19 in Medchal, 15 in Hyderabad, seven in Ranga Reddy, two in Nizamabad, and one each in Khammam and Nalgonda, have closed. “Of the total 68 colleges which did not have fire NoC, 45 have been given closure notices and rest of the colleges have either produced fire NoC or submitted a request to shift the college building,” an official said.
