Mobile phone and contraband recovered from Tripura jail

Agartala, Dec 01 (UNI) Police have launched an investigation into the recovery of five smart mobile phones, ten pen drives and five-kilogram cannabis from Agartala Central Jail at Bishalgarh yesterday, which raised the question of security of the prisoners and staff. However, nobody is arrested yet.
According to the report, the mobile phones were recovered on Nov 29 night from the possession of three dreaded criminals serving a life term. The security personnel in jail was reportedly noticed mobile communication of a few murder case convict Amit Ghosh, killer of three of his colleagues in TSR at a North Tripura in 2003 Rohid Miah and another dreaded criminal Uttam Debnath.
Accordingly, in a surprise raid in the cells at late-night jail security personnel recovered the electronic and communication devices. Later, they recovered a large amount of dry cannabis in the jail campus, which was allegedly consumed by the prisoners.
The initial investigation revealed that a couple of jail officers were involved in bringing the prohibited items in the jail and the contact list of the convicted persons has indicated that they had been in regular contact with several influential persons, suspected drug paddlers and listed criminals of the state, police sources claimed.
