Covid cases in Kerala cross 6 lakh

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Covid-19 cases reported in the state have crossed six lakh (6,02,982) with 3,382 more contracting the virus on Monday.
The recovery count stands at 5,38,713 after 6,055 beat the virus on Monday, leaving 61,894 active cases in the state. In 24 hours, 34,689 samples were tested following which the state’s test positivity rate is 9.8%.
Among the new cases, 3,318 were infected through contacts while the sources of infection were unknown in 405. There were 33 healthcare workers among the infected and 64 had come from outside.
Meanwhile, 21 deaths were confirmed as being caused by Covid-19 taking the toll in the state to 2,245. Malappuram recorded the highest number of cases, 611 followed by Kozhikode, 481, Ernakulam, 317, Alappuzha, 275, Thrissur, 250, Kottayam, 243, Palakkad, 242, Kollam, 238, Thiruvananthapuram, 234, Kannur, 175, Pathanamthitta, 91, Wayanad, 90, Kasaragod, 86 and Idukki, 49.
The locally transmitted cases were Malappuram, 578, Kozhikode, 447, Ernakulam, 246, Alappuzha, 258, Thrissur, 244, Kottayam, 240, Palakkad, 104, Kollam, 235, Thiruvananthapuram, 153, Kannur, 121, Pathanamthitta, 76, Wayanad, 78, Kasaragod, 75 and Idukki, 25.
Kozhikode reported the most cases (11) among healthcare personnel on the day followed by Thiruvananthapuram, six, Kannur, four, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Wayanad, two each, and Kollam, Kottayam, Palakkad and Kasaragod, one each.
The district-wise recovery count on Monday: Thiruvananthapuram, 334, Kollam, 633, Pathanamthitta, 143, Alappuzha, 765, Kottayam, 156, Idukki, 455, Ernakulam, 518, Thrissur, 659, Palakkad, 482, Malappuram, 507, Kozhikode, 913, Wayanad, 116, Kannur, 299 and Kasaragod, 75.
There are 3,11,770 under observation in the state, including 2,96,094 under home isolation or institutional quarantine and 15,676 in hospitals. At least 1,481 people were admitted to hospitals on Monday. A total of 62,62,476 samples have been sent for testing to date.
Six places were demarcated as hotspots today while 26 areas were excluded. There are 504 hotspots in the state.
