NEW DELHI. Actress Kangana Ranaut was trolled and attacked by several Punjabi celebrities, who were annoyed with her tweet on farmers’ protest.
Quoting a news article about infiltration of Khalistani elements in the protest, Ranaut hoped that anti-national elements won’t be allowed to create another Shaheen Bagh type blockade in Delhi.
Here’s how Ranaut was trolled by Punjabi icons and why it is abominableTroll Attack 1: “Kangana is mentally ill, needs a doctor”This is highly misogynistic and falls in the category of mansplaining. Just because you can't stand an opinionated and outspoken woman, you resort to baseless insinuations that she is mentally ill and needs treatment. Peak chauvinism!
How about you develop some spine and tolerance to hear counter-opinions from a woman without giving her labels or character-assassinating her. Wouldn't make you less of a man, right? If you have a point of view, put that across and engage. Do not compensate for lack of a counter-argument with personal attacks. And if you think that’s normal, then it is you who needs to get medically examined.
Troll Attack 2: “Shameless”, "She was upset when BMC demolished her house, but not standing for farmers now"Punjabi model Himanshi Khuranalabelled Ranaut ‘shameless’ invoking demolition of her Pali Hill bungalow carried out by the BMC.
Ranaut has nowhere made any statement against the genuine farmers who are protesting. She is only warning against anti-national elements, who are hijacking these protests and trying to create civil unrest through another Shaheen Bagh type blockade.
To twist and misrepresent her words and make it look like she is anti-protests or anti-farmers is devious and deliberately done to sidetrack and mislead.
And as far as Ranaut’s house demolition is concerned, even the Bombay High Court recently termed BMC’s action of razing renovations as “illegal and high-handed” and “actuated by malafides”.
The Bombay High Court also ordered the setting up of a committee to ascertain damages caused due to demolition and compensate Ranaut accordingly.
Therefore it is not Ranaut who is ‘shameless’, but those who draw false equivalences and hoodwink their followers into thinking that Ranaut is anti-farmer.
Troll Attack 3: “She is derailing protests”In fact, it is those who are letting these protests get hijacked by abusive and secessionist individuals. that are actually doing disservice to farmers’ cause.
What Ranaut stated in her tweet is driven by facts. There are several videos in the public domain, where some protesters are seen raising anti-India slogans.
There are also clippings of pro-Khalistani men, threatening to kill PM Modi like former PM Indira Gandhi. All this is not cooked up but backed by videographic evidence.
Engaging on the pros and cons of the farm bill in a healthy manner on social media without invalidating and dissing the videos of treacherous and vituperative 'protesters' that are in public domain, is it too much to ask?
