Madurai Kamaraj University to reopen for final year PG students, research scholars on Dec 2

MADURAI: Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) will reopen for final year postgraduate (PG) students and research scholars on Wednesday, university officials confirmed on Tuesday. Covid-19 safety precautions and SOPs would be in place and followed.
“We are starting only practical classes for final year PG students. Research scholars will also be allowed. We are hopefully expecting a good response from students as it has been months since the campus was closed. I’m sure they also are looking forward to returning,” said MKU vice-chancellor Dr M Krishnan.
The VC said that acceptance letters had been sought from parents as some parents were hesitant to send students back to the campus.
The MKU campus had been functioning as a Covid-19 care centre during the course of the pandemic. “But now all Covid-19 patients have been shifted and disinfection measures have also been carried out so there is no cause for concern. The hostels will also function depending on the students who want to get admitted such that only one person is allowed per room,” said Dr Krishnan.
The VC added that students should strictly follow various Covid-19 SOPs, including wearing of masks, avoiding crowding in common areas like canteen, avoiding exchange of books/articles and others.
