Thane, Dec 1 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and former mayor of the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation Tulsidas Mhatre died of old age-related ailments in a private hospital at Mira-Bhyander township on Tuesday.
He was suffering from old age-related ailments for months, his family sources said.
He was 77, and is survived by his wife and two sons.
Mr Mhatre was instrumental in developing the Mira-Bhayander township in the district and taluka too.
He was also responsible for the growth of the Congress party in the region and mustering support from all like-minded groups in the region.
He was also a member of the gram panchayat, Sarpanch, Civic councillor, corporator, deputy mayor, chairman of the Standing Committee and mayor.
At the start, he was the Block president of the Congress and then became president for 14 years.
He was also founder of the Abhinav Sikshan Sanstha and was the president of it for years.
His death was mourned by all in the social and political circles in Mira-Bhayander.
