GURUGRAM: A 30-year-old man employed with a city hotel died after he was allegedly beaten up by its owner and his colleagues when he demanded to be paid salary. While an FIR has been registered, no arrests have been made.
The victim, Hoshiyar Singh, was a native of UP’s Bulandshahr and had come to Gurugram six months ago in search of a job. He had rented a house in Rajiv Nagar, where he was staying with his five brothers. Two months ago, he started working as a cook and cleaner at Hotel Cyber Inn, where he was provided food and lodging, his eldest brother Umesh Kumar, a 38-year-old farmer, told TOI.
In his police complaint, Kumar said around 2am on Friday, he received a call from a man named Pintu, who belongs to their village and lives in Sheetla Mata Colony, informing him about the incident. “Hoshiyar was first taken to the Sector 10 Civil Hospital, which referred him to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. He succumbed to his injuries on Sunday night,” Kumar said.
Hoshiyar’s body was handed over to his family after a post-mortem. Kumar said in the two months that his brother had been employed with the hotel, he had not been paid. “When Hoshiyar asked for his salary, the hotel owner, along with a few other people, badly beat him up. He sustained injuries on his head and other parts of the body,” Kumar alleged, adding that he wants strict action against those responsible.
Sector 14 police station SHO Surender Singh said Hoshiyar’s statement could not be recorded at Safdarjung Hospital as he had been declared unfit to do so. A case was registered under IPC sections 323 (causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) at the police station on Saturday, and Section 302 (murder) was added on Sunday after the victim died.
