GMDA’s infra projects tailing behind, most to miss deadlines

Gurgaon: The GMDA is running way behind in terms of the progress in its civic infrastructure projects with many of them having accomplished maximum 40% progress and are unlikely to meet the deadlines.
The details were shared by the metropolitan authority in its resident advisory council meeting of multiple infra projects and their current state. The redevelopment of Huda City Centre is one such example.
The flyover proposed at the site was supposed to be opened to public in February this year, but it is not yet complete. “The underpass has been 45% completed while the flyover portion is 83% done. The progress of civil works achieved is 34%,” said a GMDA official.
MCG councillor and member RAC, RS Rathee told TOI, “Work is progressing at a snail’s pace at most of the GMDA’s projects. As per the numbers shared by the authority, overall only 15-20% of infra works have so far been completed.”
GMDA officials when approached said that the delay in the work has been caused largely due to the pandemic. “There are two major factors either litigation of shifting of utilities. Additionally pandemic has also heavily impacted as manpower is still no easily available,” said GMDA chief VS Kundu.
Even the expenditure on the development projects this year has been very low. TOI had earlier reported that GMDA has spent less than 10% of its allocated budget for infrastructure works for the year till September 2021. Out of the total budget provision of Rs 573.21 crore under capital expenditure, only 55.93 crore have been spent so far.
