Dr Jugindra takes over as president of AMASI

Imphal, November 30 2020: Dr Jugindra Sorokhaibam, Consultant Surgeon and Medical Superintendent, Shija Hospitals has taken over as president of AMASI (Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India), the largest association of Minimal Access Surgeons in the world with over 11,000 members in November and will hold the office for the next 2 years.

He informed that AMASICON 2020, 15th Annual International Conference was held on the digital platform for the first time.

More than 12,000 delegates registered.

Live surgeries performed in ZEN Hospital Mumbai, GEM Hospitals Chennai and Coimbatore and ILS Hospital Kolkata were live streamed for 3 days from November 20 till 22.The surgeries were watched in 36 countries apart from India.

Faculties from 16 countries came together on the same platform to share experiences and to inspire and teach younger surgeons but also learn from each other.

The largest foreign delegate registration was from Bangladesh, Singapore and Sri Lanka.

Nepal, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and many other European and American countries also took part.

The association founded by Dr C Palanivelu from GEM Hospital Coimbatore created history in the world for conducting the largest Surgical Conference online.

For the three days, surgeries started at 11 am every day and the program continued till late night 10.30 pm.

Three operation theatres were streamed live simultaneously to cover basic and advanced laparoscopic surgery including cancer surgeries, obesity surgery, kidney operation, robotic operations, gynaecology operations and many more.

Dr Jugindra S was also an operating faculty amongst the National and international galaxy of surgeons demonstrating key-hole surgeries for gallbladder and common bile duct.

Dr Jugindra feels that AMASI has set the trend of training surgeons in future where younger surgeons need not travel far and wide but will be able to see operations by experts sitting in office or home on their laptops and mobiles.

Within his tenure as the National president, he has taken the responsibility to train not only surgeons of India and SAARC countries but also Southeast Asian countries.
