DC orders inquiry into death of woman, her two daughter in Baramulla

Baramulla, Dec 1 (UNI) The administration in this north Kashmir district has ordered an inquiry into the death of a woman and her two daughters in border area of Boniyar during the night intervening November 28 and 29.

Officials said that Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla G N Itoo has ordered the inquiry following allegation about negligence of Primary Health Centre (PHC) Boniyar.

A 43-year-old woman identified as Shaheema Begum and her two minor daughters Nighat Majeed (13) and Tabasum Majeed (9) died allegedly due to asphyxiation in their house at Boniyar in Baramulla.

The order of the inquiry said the husband of Shahmeema and locals had alleged that they have informed the police and health authorities for necessary help but the staff of the PHC Boniyar showed slackness/negligence with the result the ambulance has reached the spot very late after two hours. Besides, the driver of the ambulance has misbehaved with people and used rude language.

The order said, “The matter has been agitated by the people, highlighted in the media including social media and it has become imperative to conduct an enquiry into the matter”.

“Therefore, Mr Itoo said, Mr Riyaz Ahmad Malik, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Uri shall conduct an enquiry into the matter and ascertain the all aspects which led to the death of three persons and also to enquire whether there was any lapse from the health authorities viz-a-viz allegations against the ambulance driver and availability of medical team for conducting post mortem. The enquiry officer shall submit his report to this office within four days”.
