SES has announced that television viewers in sub-Saharan Africa will be able to continue watching German TV channels offered by Satelio in Namibia and Deukom in South Africa. Satelio and Deukom are operated by Deutscher Televisionsklub Betriebs GmbH and broadcast via SES's orbital position at 5 degrees East. Along with a five-year extension, Televisionsklub will upgrade to a full transponder on Astra 4A to serve customers in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a focus on Namibia and South Africa.
This renewal and expansion of capacity on Astra 4A will enable the platform to offer more HD channels and entertainment to its audience. The original five-year term contract with SES was signed in 2015.
