Independent Haryana MLA quits as board chairman

CHANDIGARH: Less than a month after supporting the BJP-JJP alliance in the motion of thanks moved by chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar during the Haryana assembly session this month, Sombir Singh Sangwan, an independent MLA from Dadri has stepped down as the chairman of the Haryana Pashudhan Board on Monday.
Sangwan made the announcement during a meeting of the Sangwan Khap and it is believed that he will soon also join the farmer agitation on the Delhi-Haryana border. Notably, Sangwan’s decision came a day after the Sangwan khap had announced its decision to support the farmers’ agitation Sangwan was among those MLAs and senior BJP and JJP coalition leaders who were appointed as heads of boards and corporations ahead of the Baroda byelection.
“During the meeting of Sarv Khap panchayat it was decided that each khap will take decision and would mobilize people for joining the agitation. Keeping in view the decision of the khap, I too have put in my papers as the chairman of Haryana Pashudhan Board, an office of profit, to express solidarity with farmers’ agitation. On Tuesday, we will join the agitation,” said Sangwan.
Sangwan mum on support to alliance
Sangwan did not comment on the issue of his support to the BJP-JJP alliance. “You should have heard the statement I gave in the assembly. I had categorically said that in the interest of farmers all the confusion related to three agriculture bills should be cleared,” said Sangwan.
However, he denied the allegations that khaps could weaken the agitation. He also denied that the agitation was sponsored by the opposition parties. “This agitation has emerged from the pains of farmers. They should be given a patient hearing and the issue should be resolved immediate effect.”
