Celebs welcome Fleets on Twitter

As Twitter recently announced Fleets, one wonders if all that one had posted on social media was that easy to disappear. Right from embarrassing to mortifying, all of us have gone wrong with social media posts. Not all ‘fleeting’ thoughts must make it to the virtual space, and more importantly stay there for eternity.

Celebs tell us how they manage their social media posts—the most significant tool in engaging with their fans and the rules they have set for themselves.

A chance to rectify

I think Fleets are a good thing, because these days people are posting rubbish on social media without any filter. So, if people regret sharing something, it automatically gets removed within 24 hours which to me sounds like a good thing.

Many years back I had posted something that I regretted as I got a nasty backlash. I did deserve that outrage. I would rather not mention it again.

The rules that I follow is not to post or share anything derogatory to anyone or any institution. – Rushad Rana, actor

I did cross the line

I have had many incidents when it comes to Twitter. I have also been trolled on the platform and it no longer bothers me. I did slip once when I did not want to engage myself in any interaction but the kind of messages and tags that were used for me were not acceptable. I was literally forced to use abusive language, something which I should have avoided.

I have always been very frank and open on social media. I try to put a mix of pictures and video and content which the audience would want to see. – Sonal Vengurlekar, actor

When I goofed up…

A funny, rather embarrassing moment, happened to me on social media on Republic Day. I got a day off, so I thought of making the most of it by doing pending chores. I was multitasking and all of a sudden it hit me that I have to put a post on Instagram as well. So, I posted a picture with the flag and a rose and captioned it as ‘Happy Independence Day’ and without realising I continued with my chores. After I finished my work I checked Instagram and I saw people commenting that it’s not Independence Day but Republic Day. Luckily, I was not trolled. My fans were sweet. They corrected me in the comment section. I am sure whoever saw my post that day must have thought how dumb I was.

If I like some pictures of me or books, food or a place, I simply post it. As a rule I do take a break from social media regularly. – Heena Parmar, actor

Keeping it real

Being on social media means a lot of work. I only put up a story or a post whenever I feel like. So, it’s mostly well thought of. I haven’t yet faced an embarrassing moment. But whenever I face any negative backlash, I just ignore it.

The only rule that I follow is that I don’t post a lot of personal stuff online. I don’t like to pick my phone and record when I am with friends and family. I will first click a picture of a dish and then eat it. When I do, I keep everything real. I do not bother whether I have make-up on or not. – Chhavi Pandey, actor

Wifey played a prank

Trust my wife Supriya to play pranks. She once made a video when I was sleeping and posted it with a funny background noise. It was hilarious! People were sending screenshots on my phone. Later, I realised she had posted it.

I don’t like to share every tiny detail of my day- to-day routine. It’s trending now-a-days, but I share really important stuff or motivating messages. – Karan Pahwa, actor

Who is this guy?

As far as trolling is concerned, it does not happen too often as I am very careful of what I put out on social media. I make sure to put my point across without offending anyone. I have also been a part of many debates and in one I got into a heated discussion with one of the panellists for which some people trolled me. They did have a valid point, but it went overboard and I recollect one gentleman saying ‘who is this guy, why is he talking like this, we don’t need people like this guy on news channels’. He tagged me on Twitter. I went on to introduce myself and I was very polite to him. I explained my point to him and said sorry if I offended him. It was rather funny as he did not expect such a reply, he did a complete turnaround saying he did not mean what he said and that he was my fan. When you engage with trolls with respect, they tend to disappear. – Samir Soni, actor
