Proposal for Pune municipal medical college sent to national medical commission

PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation has sent the proposal of setting up a municipal medical college to National medical commission for final approval.
"The deadline to send the proposal was November 30. But an extension up to December 15 was given in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. But the civic administration could finalize the proposal within the time limit and send it," said a senior officer of PMC.
As per the PMC, officials after the proposal is sent to the commission it will form a committee to examine the ground level preparations for the college. This committee will visit Pune in the days to come and check the infrastructure pertaining to the college. After their final approval the actual process will start. The civic body is planning to start the first batch from next academic year in June or July.
An expert committee in November gave green signal to start the municipal medical college.
PMC is carrying out construction of the municipal medical college near Raja Bahadur mill road at the premises of a municipal school near Naidu hospital. Two separate tenders for the construction have been finalized worth Rs 1.6 crore.
PMC has completed the process of trust formation for ‘Bharatratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College’ which includes elected members of PMC.
