Lions utility back EW Viljoen has been ruled out for four to six weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury in their 20-17 win over Griquas in Kimberley.

The Lions announced on Monday that Viljoen, who started at fullback against Griquas on Saturday, sustained a Grade 2 tear of his right hamstring.

The Johannesburg franchise added that flank Hacjivah Dayimani underwent knee (meniscus) surgery last week and will be sidelined for approximately three months.

The Lions are currently fifth on the Currie Cup standings and next host Western Province at Ellis Park on Saturday (19:00 kick-off).
