Stage set for  GHMC election on Dec 1

Hyderabad, Nov 30 (UNI) The stage is set for the much-hyped Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) poll on Tuesday, for electing Corporators to 150 wards, and involving an electorate of more than 74.67 lakh, amid fool-proof security arrangements.

The State Election Commission (SEC) has made elaborate arrangements by setting up over

9,101 polling stations to be manned by 36,404 polling personnel including 9,101 polling officers and 150 returning officers.

The election material including ballot boxes and ballot papers had been dispatched to the polling stations.

The SEC will also deploy surveillance teams to ensure smooth polling which will commence at 0700 hours and end at 1800 hours.

The voting will be held by observing the COVID-19 safety norms.

According to SEC sources, voters without masks will not be allowed into polling stations and sanitisers will be provided at entry and exit points of polling stations.

Voters will not be allowed into the polling stations without photo identity cards.

Tight security arrangements were being made by deploying more than 50,000 security personnel to ensure smooth and incident-free polling.

In all,1,122 candidates including 150 nominees of the ruling TRS,149 of BJP,146 belonging to the Congress, 106 (TDP),51 (AIMIM) 17 (CPI),12 CPI (M), others recognized & regional parties (76) and 415 (Independents) are in the fray.

The no-holds-barred campaigning came to a close on Saturday evening.

The results will be announced on December four.
