ICAI- Goa takes the lead in digital conferences

The Goa chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) became the first chapter of the CA fraternity in the western region to organise a virtual sub- regional conference. The conference attracted participants from the state, Gujarat and Maharashtra. Varsha Deshpande, chairperson, ICAI- Goa, welcomed the delegates while Lalit Bajaj, chairman, WIRC, addressed the participants.

Shripad Naik, Minister of State for AYUSH (independent charge) and Minister of State for defence was the chief guest for the occasion. In his address, Naik quoted a speech by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, where he said “Chartered accountants signature is more powerful than that of the Prime Minister of the nation.” He further said that, CAs are not merely tax advisors, they have ability to advise their clients and to encourage entrepreneurs to take up new businesses which contributes to bigger economic activity and helps in nation building. 

Dr Girish Ahuja, as a guest speaker covered tax issues of transactions pertaining to real estate with special reference to joint development agreement and the newly introduced faceless assessments.  Niranjan Joshi and Dhananjay Gokhale delivered a lecture on standards of auditing and Dr. Adv Avinash Poddar addressed delegates on GST assessment and adjudication with special focus on analysis of show cause notice.

The conference was compared by Thomas Andrade and concluded with closing remarks and vote of thanks by Ulhas Dhumaskar, the immediate past chairman.
