Gurnaaz Kaur
Realisation of Truth is higher than all else. Higher still is truthful living.”
These words by the first Guru of Sikhs, Guru Nanak Dev Ji are ever-so relevant. His shabad Ek Onkar, Satnam is sung by all, irrespective of religion, caste or country. His teachings and philosophies of love, universalism and brotherhood are the need of the contemporary times where humanity is dealing with different conflicts. As we celebrate the auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 551st birth anniversary, these celebrities send out wishes of peace, love and happiness.
Pray for sarbad da bhala
Gippy Grewal, singer-actor
Guru Nanak Dev Ji has taught us sarbat da bhala (seeking blessings and good for everyone) and I practise that in my life. Although this year has been a roller-coaster ride for everyone, yet it doesn’t change the zeal in us to celebrate this big occasion. Like every year, I am going to visit Gurdwara with my family and pray for sarbad da bhala. I believe this is just a passing phase and with love and strength, we will conquer it and everything will be back to normal.
Unity should be a priority
Nimrat Kaur, actor
“Awwal Allah Noor Upaya Qudrat Keh Sub Banday, Aik Noor Keh Sub Jag Upajiya Kaun Bhale Ko Mandhe…” (God created light of which all the beings were born. And from this light, the universe; so who is good and who is bad). In a world that is so divided today, these words of wisdom should prevail. I have been brought up with this value system. I come from the Army background and we were brought up to be blind to any division based on culture, caste, religion, ethnicity or sect. Oneness and a feeling of unity are extremely important and should be a priority. This year has been so difficult and we should practise this teaching of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. I am always with my family on this day. We always go to Gurdwara sahib and do seva, which I will miss this year but it’s wise to be home considering the ongoing pandemic.
Share what you have
Sukhwinder Singh, singer
Just look around and you will be in awe that a community of three crore feeds almost nine crore people across India every day. The langar system that Guru Nanak Dev Ji started when he was just a teenager, sitting at his father’s shop, in the name of the Almighty as he would recite Tera Tera (yours)… it touched me as a kid and I make sure to do what my Guru did, in whatever capacity. Rest, I recite his name through my music and even otherwise… there is so much to learn from Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It is an endless path to goodness.
Need his blessings
Guru Randhawa, singer
I am a very spiritual person and believe that whatever I have achieved is due to Guru Nanak Ji’s blessings. I can’t start my day without seeking his blessings and thanking him for this beautiful life. This is a routine that my parents thought me at a very young age and I continue to follow it even today. On this special day, I will go to Gurdwara sahib and share what I can with the fellow beings.
Let’s have kindness
Wamiqa Gabbi, actor
“Sat Santokh Daya Kamave Se Karni Sar” (Practice truth, contentment and kindness; this is the most excellent way of life). I make all the effort to practice this verse/teaching of our Guru and there is nothing more than we need to imbibe these qualities today. I want everyone to think of these teachings as the guiding light.
