Swisscom has added new Privacy Icons to its data policies alongside the Swiss Federal Railways SBB, Credit Suisse and retail company Migros. Privacy Icons are pictograms that help users understand the consequences of their online activities for data protection. They visually show aspects of data processing linked to the online activity of the users. Privacy icons should in theory be quickly and intuitively understandable by everyone to support decision-making processes.
BKW and Zurich Insurance are also planning to use the Privacy Icons. The Privacy Icons association has developed nineteen icons to increase transparency in data protection. It had also started the Privacy Icons Project (PIP) as an initiative of Research Group 4 (Frameworks for Data Markets) and the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society in Berlin, founding members of the association.
