Lithuania's competition watchdog has cleared Bite Lithuania to acquire the broadband and IPTV business under the Mezon brand from state-owned operator Telecentras. Telecentras plans to focus on state ICT projects after exiting the retail telecom business. Bite Lithuania expects to close the deal worth over EUR 20 million at the end of December.
Bite plans to transfer the business into a new subsidiary called Mezon. Around 150 employees will transfer to Bite from Telecentras after the takeover.
Some restrictions will apply under the regulator's decision to clear the acquisition. Bite may not transfer the licences to use the 2.3 GHz and 2.6 GHz bands by Mezon to its networks joint venture Centuria with Tele2, which is developing a shared RAN and 5G network in Lithuania and Latvia. Bite Lithuania may not use those frequencies for its mobile internet services. The restrictions will be valid as long as Tele2 Lithuania and Bite Lithuania continue their cooperation in Lithuania.
