Functioning of the Sarzora village panchayat, which is identified as a beacon panchayat, has hit a roadblock as the directorate of panchayats has deployed a gram sevak as secretary much to the displeasure of the villagers.
The panchayat secretary was recently transferred only to be replaced by a gram sevak. To make matters worse for the public, the panchayat is functioning without adequate staff as some personnel have been deployed on BLO duties on Friday and Saturday.
Residents claimed that the functioning has taken a hit and that they have complained to the sarpanch over the poor services however she claims that she is helpless as the staff are deputed on BLO duties while the secretary is yet to get acquainted with the panchayat raj act.
Sarzora sarpanch Sabita Mascarenhas said that though it is a matter of pride that the panchayat is declared as beacon panchayat but it also puts additional burden to ensure that they deliver the goods to the people of the village.
“As the staff are drawn for BLO duties, I personally have typed letters to avoid inconvenience to the people,” she claimed.
“It is unfortunate that the government itself is creating roadblock to the smooth functioning of the panchayat in the state,” adding, “It is the people who are suffering.”
