MLA H Dingo inspects dam construction work

Imphal, November 28 2020: MLA of Sekmai Assembly Constituency, H Dingo today paid a surprise visit to Kanglatongbi Thongkhong river and inspected the progress of construction work of a dam built over the river and canals which will feed water to the nearby villages.

Pradhan and Members of Kanglatongbi GP, leaders of villages in Kanglatongbi area also accompanied the MLA during the inspection drive.

Speaking on the sidelines of the visit, MLA H Dingo said that Kanglatombi area and Sekmai AC at large had been neglected for years by previous Governments.

But with the formation of BJP led Government, development work has been initiated on war footing, he added.

Thongkhong river is a very vital river for villages in Kanglatongbi area as it serves as a source of drinking water and irrigation, he said.

Villages which were bereft of proper water supply facilities started receiving water through canals as soon as the BJP-led Government came into power, he said while expressing regret that the facility had to stop unfortunately with the collapse of the canals during the previous rainy season.

However, the canal has been repaired and started functioning with the help of concerted efforts from Pradhan, Members and people of Kanglatongbi, he continued while praising them all for their efforts.

The MLA, on behalf of the people of the AC also thanked CM, N Biren for considering the plight of the people of the AC and approving the construction of a dam over Thongkhong river.

The credit goes to the CM and the people of Sekmai, he said while expressing hope that the construction of the dam will be completed very soon.

Before his visit to the dam site, the MLA also attended the 1st foundation day of Spiritual Harbour at Sekmai Nongthomband.
