PRAYAGRAJ: Theatre artists, the transgender community and college students have joined hands with the police to spread awareness about following traffic norms among commuters in Prayagraj.
In one of the initiatives, traffic police roped in two theatre artists to dress up as the Hindu god of death Yamraj to spread word about road safety and to request commuters to wear helmets and seat belts.
The artists were spotted carrying swords, a mace and a whip and were seen stopping commuters not wearing helmets at Subhash Crossing on Saturday.
Deputy SP (traffic) Shivam Todi said, “The theatre artists interacted with commuters driving two-wheelers without wearing helmets and gifted them helmets.”
He also said that members of the transgender community have also joined the drive. “They urged commuters to wear masks and helmets while driving two-wheelers.”
The groups also interacted with car drivers and discussed the importance of wearing seat belts with them. Traffic police launched the road safety drive as part of the activities organised during the ongoing ‘Traffic month’.
The drive aimed to create awareness about road safety and instil a sense of responsibility among commuters.
