The Best Black Friday Deals on Kindle, Fire, and Echo Devices

Amazon devices are already pretty affordable, but Black Friday is one of those times when they get even cheaper. Whether you're shopping for a small smart speaker or you want to go all-in on Amazon's ecosystem, below are the best Amazon device deals we've found so far. You can also head directly to Amazon for a less organized (and less insightful, we hope!) roundup. Other stores will price-match these offers if you wish to shop elsewhere.

Note: We strike through items that sell out or are no longer at their deal price as of publishing. Discounts sometimes return, so check for yourself. We will update this guide throughout the weekend as Amazon discounts more of its devices.

Echo Deals

Echo speakers are one of the cheapest, easiest ways to explore smart home tech. You can ask Alexa to check the weather, stream music, control compatible devices, and more. Check out this Alexa speaker buying guide to figure out which Echo is right for you. These tips will help keep your privacy intact when placing smart speakers around your house.

• The New Echo Dot for $29 ($21 off): Amazon recently updated the Echo Dot with two models, this one and the one with a clock (see below). Both are spherical in shape and very similar to the new standard Echo. WIRED writer Parker Hall has been testing it and loves it, plus the rounder shape projects sound in more directions. If you need a smart bulb, you can get this deal, plus a Sengled Smart Bulb for the same price.

• Echo Dot With Clock for $39 ($21 off): This one has the same speaker as the plain Echo Dot, but adds a digital clock face, which makes it great for the bedside. Blue is backordered until early January, and white is, well, currently has a shipping estimate of anywhere between March and May. If blue is your style and you don't want to wait until 2021, Best Buy still has a few in stock for the same price.

• Echo Dot Kids Edition for $39 ($21 off): The kids edition Echo Dot offers some parental controls and kid-friendly designs—WIRED writer Adrienne So says it's incredibly cute and has surprisingly great sound. This deal also includes a year of Amazon Kids+ (formerly FreeTime Unlimited) content. After the first year, Amazon Kids+ is $3 per month, so be sure to make a note on your calendar if you plan to cancel. The Tiger version is backordered until January, but the Panda version releases on December 8.

• Echo Dot (previous model) for $19 ($21 off): Long live the hockey puck! If you don't need the improvements in the new Dot, this is a good price for what we still think is the basic smart-home building block. You can place it nearly anywhere. It sounds pretty good for its size and is a great way to test the world of smart home devices without spending a fortune. The puck is going fast, Amazon is backordered for three months or more in some colors, but Best Buy and Target still have some in stock at the same price.

• Echo for $70 ($30 off): The new, round Echo is Amazon's best smart speaker yet, with bolder bass and better voice recognition for all your Alexa commands.

• Echo Show 8 for $65 ($65 off): The Echo Show 8 is the middle child in Amazon's Alexa-powered smart display lineup. The screen is big enough to read from a good distance, but it doesn't hog counter space in your kitchen or office. Like the Dot above, both colors are currently backordered at Amazon, but Best Buy has the same deal.

• Echo Show 5 for $45 ($45 off): The Echo Show 5 isn't our favorite smart display, but if space is limited and you want a screen—for example, on your nightstand—it gets the job done. Amazon is currently backordered until early December, but Target has the Echo Show 5 in stock for $45 (and you save $5).

• Echo Show 5 and Blink Mini Camera for $50 ($30 off): This bundled deal saves you a bit on the Echo Show 5 and throws in a Blink mini indoor camera. Connect the camera to your home Wi-Fi network, then just ask Alexa to show you what the camera sees, and it appears on the Echo Show's screen.

• Echo Flex for $10 ($15 off): The Flex is Amazon's tiny wall-socket speaker—the bathroom speaker, as we call it. It has a USB port on the bottom, so you can charge your phone or plug in an Amazon-made night light.

Fire Tablet Deals

Amazon's tablets are cheap because they're the company's loss leader for its services, like Kindle Unlimited and Prime Video. We have concerns, especially with the limited selection of apps in Amazon's app store, but overall they're a good deal. Kindles, on the other hand, are pretty much the undisputed kings of ebook readers. They offer more than a month of battery life, storage space for thousands of titles, and unlimited book subscriptions. You can even get free books from your local library. • Fire HD 10 for $80 ($70 off): This is the largest and most powerful device in the Fire line. It's faster, has more storage, and has the best screen of the bunch. This deal is on the 32-gigabyte model with ads. The extra fee to remove ads is worth it.

• Fire HD 8 for $55 ($35 off): The new Fire HD 8 (7/10 WIRED Recommends) has a faster processor and more RAM than previous models. The screen still isn't as nice as the Fire HD 10, but the new, horizontal camera design is better for Echo Show-style use. The ad-free version is $70 ($35 off) and well worth the extra money.

• Fire HD 8 Plus for $75 ($35 off): The Fire HD 8 Plus is the Fire HD 8, with the RAM bumped from 2 to 3 gigabytes. That doesn't sound like much, but it makes for a smoother experience, particularly when you're juggling multiple apps. It also has wireless charging.

• Fire HD 10 Kid's Edition for $130 ($70 off): The best deal on a Fire tablet is this Kids Edition. It's exactly the same as the regular Fire tablets, except you get a rugged case and a two-year worry-free guarantee, which means Amazon will replace the tablet for free if your kids break it. It also comes with one year of Amazon Kids+ (formerly FreeTime Unlimited), offering access to kid-friendly movies, books, games, and apps (Kids+ is $3 per month after the first year). The Fire HD 10 Kids edition is backordered until mid December.

• Fire HD 8 Kid's Edition for $80 ($60 off): If the Fire HD 10 is too big for your kid, get them this version. It has all the same processor and memory updates as the latest Fire HD 8 (7/10 WIRED Recommends).

The Fire 7 Kids Edition tablet is also on sale, but even at $60 ($40 off), we don't think it's worth your money. The screen is low-resolution and the device is too slow to play most of the games your kids will want to try.

Kindle Deals

• Kindle for $60 ($30 off): Amazon did not update the Kindle this year, but the 2019 Kindle (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is still a great device. The 6-inch E Ink capacitive touchscreen lights up so you can read in the dark. The main downsides are that it's not water-resistant, and it still uses a Micro USB charging port (newer products use USB-C). If you can live with that, this is a good deal. Amazon is currently backordered until after the December holidays, but Best Buy and Target have them in stock, if you like the color black.

• Kindle Kids Edition for $80 ($30 off): We love the new Kids Edition Kindle (7/10, WIRED Recommends). As with other Kids Edition Amazon devices, the real selling point is the free replacement program. You also get a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+, and there are no games, ads, or voice assistants. The downsides are that pictures aren't great on Kindles and it's not waterproof, but with a two-year guaranteed replacement, does it matter? Amazon is currently backordered until mid-January 2021.

• Kindle Paperwhite for $85 ($45 off): The Paperwhite is the Goldilocks Kindle, especially at this price. The display is a step up from the base model, offering better resolution, and the device is rated IPX8 for water resistance, which means you can read in the tub without worry.

• Kindle Oasis for $200 ($80 off): I won't lie, the Oasis is a joy to use. Its LED screen can be adjusted to give off a more pleasant, warm orange glow, which is great for reading at night. And the dedicated page turn buttons are handy for one-handed reading. It's water-resistant too. That said, it is pricey—even on sale, it costs more than two Paperwhites.

Other Deals

• Fire TV Stick 4K for $30 ($20 off): This device is one of our favorite streaming sticks, though as with everything else Amazon, content is heavily biased toward Prime Video and Amazon purchases and rentals. If for some reason you don't want the 4K streaming, you can save $2 by going with this 1080p version instead. But you'll likely have a better long-term experience with the faster 4K model, even if you have an older HD TV.

• Eero 6 Wi-Fi System (3-Pack) for $223 ($56 off): Amazon offered a better deal on this for Prime Day, but if you missed it you can still save a little with this deal. If you have a larger house, or your internet modem is in a corner of it and you have trouble getting stable Wi-Fi everywhere, Eero is an easy fix. You just place the three nodes (or add more) in different zones of your house to stitch together a more stable Wi-Fi network.
