
CAT 2020 Exam Analysis Live Updates: The Indian Institute of Management (Indore) Common Admission Test (CAT 2020) is being held today. A total of 2.27 lakh (2,27,835) had applied to appear for the entrance exam this year which are conducted at 156 test cities.
This year, there was a change in the exam pattern considering the COVID-19 scenario. The duration of CAT has been reduced from three to two hours. As per the sectional time duration of CAT, it has been reduced to 40 minutes from 60 minutes with each section, verbal ability and reading comprehension, data interpretation and logical reasoning, and quantitative ability- getting 40 minutes each.
For all MCQs, there would be negative marking while for other questions, no marks will be deducted for the wrong answers.
Last year, the candidates reviewed the paper as difficult, with questions from both quant and mathematics sections had higher difficulty level. The result was announced on January 4.
DILR was tough as compared to last year's paper. There were two sets of six questions each. There were 6 TITA (type in the answer) questions out of the 24 questions asked in this section. In DILR, out of 24 questions, there were 18 MCQs and 6 TITA based questions.

Vijay Jha, President, Academics, Gradeup rated the slot 2 more difficult, with difficulty level of VARC section was high followed by Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, Quantitative section. The candidates can expect a score of 99.5 percentile.
Highlights of the exam:
- The total marks of CAT 2020 is 228.
- The level of VARC was difficult.
- The level of Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning was also difficult.
- Quantitative section was of moderate level.
- Total MCQ Questions were 57 and Non MCQ (TITA) were 19.

The overall difficulty level of the CAT 2020 Slot two was difficult compared to the difficulty level of the exam held in slot one. In slot two, the level of VARC was difficult. The DILR section was also difficult while the level of Quantitative Ability was moderate.

CAT 2020 was well managed and conducted in the pandemic time with strong checks at most centers for temperature, masks being mandatory and the COVID positive students being given a separate room to take the exam. Overall the exam was Tough as compared to 2019 with DILR and VARC both being Time consuming and lengthy.

Philip Thomas, product head, TIME Bangalore reviewed the paper as easier compared to previous year. "The first section, VRC was as tough as last year while quants and verbal ability sections were comparatively easier. May be due to COVID, the sections were kept at a level where someone with a basic understanding could also solve a couple of questions. This could make the cutoffs go higher, overall. Section-wise, cutoff for verbal ability would remain the same while for rest two sections it could go higher than last year," TIME Bangalore product head said
The second slot will begin at 12:30 pm. Candidates need to reach exam centre in advance to allow time for frisking, verification and staggered entry. Gates will be closed 15 minutes ahead of the exam, as per rules
Harshita Rai, a CAT aspirant reviewed the paper as moderate, with VARC section a bit difficult. According to Harshita, "There are in total 76 questions. The VARC section is a bit difficult, while sections like LRDI, Quant are easy to answer."
