The Best Black Friday TV and Soundbar Deals

After a year of delayed products and high prices, now is finally a good time to buy a new TV. For Black Friday, we're seeing the cheapest prices ever on OLED (organic LED) models. This cutting-edge tech allows each of the millions of pixels to act as its own backlight, making colors more vivid and blacks as dark as possible. It has some flaws, but it's our favorite display tech here at WIRED, and prices are finally getting reasonable.

As usual, we recommend avoiding TVs that are not made by LG, Vizio, Samsung, Sony, Hisense, or TCL. Other brands (Sceptre, Insignia, et cetera) sell extremely cheap TVs, but the build quality is often inferior. Here are the best deals on screens this holiday weekend. Be sure to check out our list of the best TVs for more information on our favorite models. All of these TVs are 4K with HDR unless otherwise specified, and most are 55 inches in size.

Vizio's first-ever OLED is also the cheapest new OLED we've ever seen, with a shocking $400 discount right now. It's one of the best-looking TVs we've seen all year, with fantastic black levels and HDMI 2.1 ports that mean you'll get up to 120 Hz at 4K resolution with consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X—the same performance you'd get with the LG CX we list next, but without the added benefits of the Nvidia G-Sync that television has.

LG's CX OLED is one of the prettiest TVs of 2020, which makes this sale one of the best you'll find this Black Friday. It's got a super-low refresh rate option and Nvidia G-Sync for working as a computer monitor, and it's also one of the few models that can do 4K at 120 frames per second to make video games look even better on next-gen consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

If you don't need the super speedy 120-Hz 4K for gaming, the step down from the LG CX is an astonishing deal this Black Friday. For just under $1,200, you can get very nearly the same image quality as you do with LG's higher-tiered models, with some of the best contrast on the market.

WIRED reviewer Jess Grey says this is one of the prettiest TVs she's ever seen, and I'm inclined to believe her. If you're after a shockingly beautiful screen to complete your fancy quarantine theater, look no further.

Samsung's Q80T has smart backlighting and quantum dot (QLED) technology, offering some of the best contrast you'll find on a non-OLED TV. I also like that it has a central pedestal to stand on, so it will fit on older TV stands that aren't excessively wide.

TVs smaller than 55 inches are not so common these days, but this is a good option for those who need to squeeze a television into a smaller space. It has Samsung's quantum dot technology for brighter colors, and it comes with a decent smart interface for streaming your favorite channels.

Hisense's affordable Android-powered TVs are some of our favorite cheap sets on the market, which is why even this small discount is worth peeking at. If you like the Google TV ecosystem, this might be the perfect new TV for you. I also like it's cool central-leg design, which is more stylish than other affordable TVs.

Soundbar Deals

Walmart, Best Buy, B&H ($799)

Vizio's Elevate Soundbar is one of the best new bars of the year, with rounded speakers on the edge of the bar that physically pivot to fire at the ceiling when Dolby Atmos object-based surround sound is detected. It also has surround-sound speakers and a wireless subwoofer. At $700 this weekend, it's one of the best deals around.

There is no more affordable way to get quality surround sound in your living room than this cheap Dolby Atmos-enabled bar from Vizio. It's not as flashy as the Elevate above, but it's simple and gets the job done, and the price is absolutely right. If you're not into Atmos, save $50 and snag this 5.1 bar, which doesn't have the up-firing speakers.

If you've been meaning to upgrade those crappy built-in TV speakers, now's the time. This Samsung bar is half off, and it promises to vastly improve your quarantine viewing. It also comes with a subwoofer, which helps a lot more than you might think.

LG's basic soundbars are pricier than some competitors, but they offer some of the best sound for their size. That makes this a great time to grab this smaller 3.1 bar. With a wireless subwoofer and Dolby sound, it will take any TV speakers to the next level.

Sony has some of the best audio processing in the game, and that should be true of this affordable soundbar with wireless subwoofer, which is more than good enough for smaller viewing rooms.

Streaming Device Deals

We love the picture quality of all these TVs, but very few of them come with a good built-in app platform. Unless your TV runs Google TV, Roku, or Fire OS out of the box, you should invest in one of our favorite streaming devices.

This has been our favorite streaming device for a few years. Roku isn't perfect, but it has near-universal app support (and we hope Peacock comes soon!) and a dead-simple interface. It plugs into the HDMI port on the back of your TV. Read our Roku guide for more.

If you've got a TV in your kitchen or bedroom that you're looking to upgrade, consider grabbing this awesome little stream/soundbar combo from Roku. It's got all the guts of a Roku Ultra—Wi-Fi, 4K streaming with HDR, and even Airplay on board—plus a few small speakers to improve the TV's built-in speakers.

If you're big into renting and buying movies or TV shows from Amazon, this stick is another option. It's best for Prime members since it favors Prime Video and purchasing content through Amazon. (You can get a free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime; just remember to cancel it before you're charged.)

Optoma makes some of our favorite home theater projectors. The UHD30 has a 240 Hz refresh rate and 16 ms of input lag, which makes it actually possible to game on with consoles or a PC, and it also has Optoma's excellent image processing, giving it a crisp 4K picture. At just over $1,000, it's a pretty screaming deal.

As long as you've got a dark room, consumer-grade projectors like the LG HU70LA are shockingly good for the money these days. This one can produce an image of up to 140 inches, and it features HDR10 and support for Google Assistant and Alexa. This projector has been this cheap before, briefly, but it jumps up and down in price a lot. It's as low a price as we've seen, so we're gonna feature it anyway!
