Imphal, November 27 2020: The Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) observed its 15th foundation at the hall of Manipur College today.

Delivering the keynote address during the celebration function, secretary general of KSA, Seram Hemjit stated that the association founded on November 27 in 2005 has completed 15 years today.

KSA has been fighting issues which have been plaguing the educational system in the State and will strive towards a better education system in the State in days to come, he said.

Speaking as the chief guest, Commissioner of Higher and Technical Education, M Hare Krishna stressed on the importance of re-examine why we need formal education and what are the objectives.

"From attending schools on sandals and with sacks for sitting to desks, chairs and nice uniforms, we have seen a colossal change in the education system in the last few decades, however, we are yet to get satisfactory results so far, " he said.

"There is still an ocean of difference in the educational system and its objective when compared to educational systems of other advanced countries," he continued.

Education is a dynamic process and it keeps on changing with time and place and thus the definition of education should change in line with the social advancement, he said.

Delving into the New Education Policy (NEP), the Commissioner maintained that the older education policy emphasised basically on what to learn but it has been now transformed into how to learn in NEP.

The earlier education policy focused on some syllabi, prescribed books and assessment of the cognitive abilities and as the new policy stresses on how to learn, all must be ready for the transition, he said.

"The target we are setting must conform with our effort," he said while further asserting everything is achievable if all strive with passion and perseverance.

KSA president, Ningthoujam Chetan, in the meantime stated that the association emphasis mainly on three important sectors viz - education, agriculture and health.

According to a survey, most of the present teachers are bereft of training for around 10 to 15 years and thus their knowledge is almost stagnant, he said while adding that regular workshops, training programmes are the need of the hour to ensure their growth.

International awardee, H Ibotombi Khuman on the other hand maintained that the statement of the Education Minister to introduce 'Sanskrit subject' in the curricula of some schools and colleges in the State has painted a sordid picture.

It could have been better if academicians and student bodies of the land had been incorporated while formulating the policy of introducing 'Sanskrit subject', he continued.

He opined that addition of 'the new subject was untimely as the efforts to preserve and observe indigenous language and script has been strenuous.

Furthermore it could add more burden to the students, he said while urging the concerned Ministry to reconsider its' move.

Mediapersons and members of other organisations attending the event were presented with shawls during the function.

The KSA Jiribam unit also celebrates foundation day.
