Tangedco claimed to have restored power supply through all the feeders in the city on Friday morning, but several people took to social media complaining of long hours of outage over the last three days.
Chennai:
Residents of Pallikaranai, Perungalathur, Perumbakkam and Varadarajapuram in Mudichur continue to face power outage due to heavy water-logging.
According to Tangedco officials, of the 1,707 feeders in Chennai, 536 were hand tripped and broke down during the cyclone. “We charged all feeders by Friday morning. Large areas don’t face power outage anymore,” the official said, adding that power supply was restored in Cuddalore and Villupuram districts as well. Parts of Vellore and Ranipet were facing power outages due to the floods, he said. However, there were many complaints on Twitter. “Four electricity fell down in our area. Even after two days no action or response from #TNEB,” tweeted N Saravanan, a resident of Pallikaranai.
Ashgar Khan, a resident of Perumbakkam said that over 1,500 families living in their apartments were struggling without power supply for the past three days. “We have been reaching the AE (assistant engineer) from TNEB but there has been no response,” he wrote.
A senior Tangedco official said that the power supply would have been suspended at the local distribution transformers level due to water stagnation. “We might not have restored power over safety concerns,” he said, admitting there were delays in attending to individual complaints.
