PM Modi conducts whirlwind visit to Hyderabad

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Bharat Biotech facility to review COVID19 vaccine development, in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday arrived in Hyderabad to visit vaccine major Bharat Biotech facility as part of his three-city tour to take stock of COVID-19 vaccine development. He began his tour from Ahmedabad where he visited pharma giant Zydus Cadila’s manufacturing facility and after his stop-over at Hyderabad, he is headed for Pune where he is scheduled to visit another vaccine manufacturer Serum Institute of India.

Modi landed at Hakimpet Air Force station in Hyderabad at around 1 pm. He was received by Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, DGP M Mahender Reddy and three other officials on behalf of the State government. Later, he visited the Bharat Biotech’s facility located at Genome valley. Covaxin, a COVID-19 vaccine is being developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research and National Institute of Virology is now undergoing phase-3 trials.

At the Bharat Biotech facility, the Prime Minister was informed about the indigenous COVID-19 vaccine which received an applause from him. He congratulated the scientists for their progress in the trial phases till date. The vaccine is being developed and will be manufactured at Bharat Biotech’s BSL-3 (Bio-Safety Level 3) facility in Genome Valley in Hyderabad.
