SRINAGAR: J&K Administrative Council headed by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday approved the proposal for development of the 850MW Ratle Hydroelectric Project in joint venture between National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) and JK Power Development Corporation (JKPDC).
The Ratle Hydroelectric Plant will be a run-of-the-river hydroelectric power station on the Chenab River, downstream of the village near Drabshalla in Kishtwar district of the Union Territory of J&K.
βThe Rs 5,300-crore project would be executed by a new joint venture company β Jammu Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited β to be formed between JKPDC and NHPC. The equity contribution of JKPDC in the company pegged at Rs 776.44 crore will be provided as grant from the Government of India,β an official spokesman said.
According to the spokesman, the project is expected to be completed within 36 months of the start of work.
J&K has over 20,000MW of hydro power potential, out of which 16,000MW has been identified. The 1,000MW Pakal Dul project and 624MW Kiru are already under execution by Chenab Valley Power Project Private Limited (CVPPL).
