Virat Kohli had earlier decided to leave the Indian National Cricket Team's national tour in Australia, which has begun today, 27th November. The Indian captain and premiere batsman applied for paternity leave, following wife and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma's pregnancy as she's expected to deliver their first child in the middle of the tour. Kohli would be leaving the Australia tour after the first test match, having played the three ODIs and three T20s prior to that, but will be unavailable for the subsequent three test matches. A lot has been said since the news broke out, with many in the public even raising absurd points about Virat Kohli been on some sort of national duty, due to which he apparently doesn't merit paternity leave, treating him like a soldier for some contorted reason. The fact that the captain maintained a dignified silence also this while didn't help his case in this particular matter. Well, thankfully, he has finally broken his silence. Addressing the media during a virtual press conference, Kohli said, “The decision was made before the selection meeting that I will be flying back before the first Test. It was purely based on the fact that there was a quarantine period in both ways. I wanted to be back in time to be with my wife for the birth of our first child. It is very, very special and a beautiful moment in our lives and that was the reason for my decision that was communicated to the selectors.” Also Read - Caught on cam: Anushka Sharma shows hubby Virat Kohli diligently cleaning his muddy shoes
Very well said, captain. At the end of the day, it's still a job regardless however passionate he may be while doing it or we may be while watching it, and just as any job, every cricketer deserves their leaves, especially when it's a question of family.
